Meet Aicelle: Our young dreamer from Southern Negros Occidental

Aicelle, 18, is an incoming first year college student at a public college in Southern Negros Occidental. She dreams of becoming a flight attendant — traveling the world, immersing herself in different cultures, and connecting with people from all walks of life. Her top three dream destinations are Japan, Switzerland, and Dubai.

She was accepted into two public schools, but neither offers a Tourism degree, her first college degree choice. Undeterred, she will be enrolling in an Education course, majoring in Science. Teaching is something she believes she will excel at, and she sees it as a stepping stone — a way to eventually fund the flight attendant training that will bring her closer to her dreams in the sky.

Aicelle's journey has not been easy. She lost her mother to cancer when she was just seven years old. Eight years later, her father passed away as well, also due to illness. Since then, her sole source of financial support has been her late father's modest pension of 3,000 pesos a month — a sum that barely covers the basics, let alone the expected demands of college life.

Aicelle is very talented in the arts. She likes to draw, sketch, and design. She also plays the ukelele.

Part of Aicelle’s preparation to enter college is to look for essential tools that are critical to her learning. She came to us to apply for a Coin Grant. Now, with a laptop and internet connection in hand, Aicelle can step into her higher education journey better equipped, and with one less burden on her shoulders.

The Coin (Computer and Internet) Grant aims to facilitate computer ownership as well as ensure internet access, at least for a year, students, home-based employees, and community workers who know how to use a computer, tablet, or phone, and navigate the internet, but do not have the means to purchase.
