Online Should Be Safe for the Mangyan Teachers of LMES

On July 3, 2026, the Create Foundation team conducted an Online Should Be Safe (OSBS) training session for the staff and teachers of Liguma Mangyan Elementary School (LMES) in Bongabong, Oriental Mindoro.

Youth and Indigenous communities are among the most structurally vulnerable populations to digital risks. Youth face unmatched exposure due to high online connectivity, while Indigenous peoples bear unique cultural, environmental, and socio-economic digital threats. These risks are heightened further when children have little to no guidance in navigating digital technologies.

With the goal of equipping teachers with the knowledge and skills to navigate the internet — especially as educators of young children who themselves have little relationship with technology — the Create Foundation team designed a personalized training built around three sessions under the theme "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly." The sessions covered three main topics: (1) Pro Tips on Canva Use for Teachers, (2) Understanding Cyberthreats, and (3) From Risks to Consequences: Staying Protected Online. Each session was facilitated respectively by members of the Create Foundation team: Campaigns Officer Alee, Partnerships and Projects Officer HP, and Executive Director Glitter.

The sessions concluded with teachers learning how to keep our online spaces safe, ensuring every Filipino can enjoy a meaningful and comfortable life in the digital world.
