From Pages to Peaks: A Book Drive Campaign in Partnership with CIIT Library

In August 2024, CREATE Foundation partnered with the CIIT Library to launch a three-month book drive. Students, faculty, and staff came together to donate nearly 2,000 books and learning materials — filling up 13 balikbayan boxes!

As part of our CREATE Library Program, the donated books and materials were delivered to two recipient communities in Mindanao, just in time for the new school year.

One of these is the Yellow School of Hope, an elementary school for the Samal Bajaus in Maluso, Basilan. The materials sent will help stock their library room.

Meanwhile, five of the 13 boxes were sent to an upland elementary school in Barangay Sandab, Butig, Lanao del Sur. To reach this remote community, CREATE Foundation partnered with a mountaineering group for Project CLIMB (Create Learning in Mountain Barangays).

The group, led by friends Tadz and Tina, has long been mountaineering to promote tourism in Mindanao. They climbed to Barangay Sandab and distributed the books to help fill the school’s library. The donation will benefit both students and faculty.

CREATE Library is our program for Digital Readiness. Digital inclusion requires a foundational level of literacy and numeracy. Being able to read, write, and count is essential for the transition to digital literacy. Project CLIMB is one of the initiatives under this program.
